Spring into the freshest new foodie-obsessed restaurant to hit the Ramsey dining scene: Local Seasonal Kitchen, where ingredients are sourced from local farms and the menu changes based on what’s in season. Chef/owner and Ramsey native Steven Santoro, who learned to cook during stints in many well known NYC and European kitchens (Fresco by Scotto, La Cote Basque, Café Des Artistes), has finally brought his brood (and food) back to his roots, with the opening of his new BYO.
Pop into the neighboring liquor store to snag a perfect Pinot to pair with your seasonal meal before being greeted by a beautifully displayed, hug-worthy tree stump upon entering the rustic resto. Stone floors and neutral tones suggest a farmhouse vibe, and upholstered banquets flank cozy corner tables that are worth requesting if you’re dining with pals.
Kick off your meal with starters like Steamed Manilla Clams & Maine Mussels, Avery Farm Hen Egg Raviolo, and Burratina and Buffalo Mozzarella. Artfully designed plates of house-made Papparedella with Hudson Valley Duck & Wild Mushroom Ragu, Barnegat Light Sea Scallops, and a Suckling Roasted Pig Special are so flavorful it left us wishing it was a regular menu item. The playful desserts created by Jessica Murrota (previously of Campagna) had us nibbling on a Hazelnut Gelato Bomba that was totally the bomb.
Book early says co-owner Joan Santoro, now that the foodies are buzzing. The secret’s out that Local delivers a high-end NYC quality restaurant with a neighborhood vibe.
We’re happy these locals came home.
