Bergen County’s Food Scene Brings New Restaurant Openings in 2025

Restaurants  /

Yes, it's cold. But we're ready to warm our bodies, souls, and stomachs with the tasty treasures found at some of the area's newest restaurants opening their doors. It's time to grab your phone and make your reservation, because these spots are sure to fill up fast.

So what's on the lineup? Bergen County's serving up grand openings of Bar Mutz in Westwood, Lula in Ridgewood, Nepoletano Wood Fired Tavern in River Vale, and (just a quick drive over the NJ border) Carlitos Tequileria in West Nyack, all of which are sharing their twists on Italian, New American, and Mexican-inspired menus. We here to give you a little sneak peak at these buzzy openings, but don't just take our word for it. Plan a night out with your gang and experience them for yourself.

Bar Mutz, Westwood

Robbie Felice, Chef and owner of Westwood other's must-visit Italian spot Osteria Crescendo among other north Jersey restaurants, is tapping even more into the world of cheese with the opening of Bar Mutz on February 1, a trendy mozzarella and cocktail bar. Handmade mozarella offerings, unique takes on classic Italian dishes like a spicy rigatoni, mouthwatering cocktails such as espresso martinis with a twist, plus a hugely hip vibe with graffiti floors and walls will make this an instant winner.

Lula, Ridgewood

This Ridgewood spot is hosting its official opening on January 30, and there's plenty worth trying. The BYOB with a New American menu is filled with sustainable, locally sourced ingredients that shine in its dishes. It's a neighborhood spot with a cozy and inviting atmosphere featuring decor, furnishings, and plateware sourced from local artisans. Bergen Mama chatted with Chef Conor Browne, who shared his favorite dish: The Goffle Road 1/2 Chicken that's dry aged, roasted with super crispy skin, and served with Smashed Fingerling Potatoes. Other tasty options include the Focaccia Bread with Whipped Herb Butter and the Red Wine Braised Beef Cheek Cottage Pie. Browne created an upscale, energetic vibe balanced with simple decor, while keeping the charm and community feel of the space. Lula is currently open five days a week for dinner, with the option to rent the space for private events, too.

Nepoletano, River Vale

Taking over the previous location of Let's Meat Steakhouse, Nepoletano Tavern, coming in early February, will offer authentic wood-fired pizza, classic Italian cuisine, and plenty of cocktails in its lively and welcoming space in the middle of River Vale's cozy neighborhood. Enjoy a night out filled with flavorful, authentic Italian dishes at affordable prices (oh, and they'll still be accepting Let's Meat gift cards). Be on the lookout for more info to come soon. Buon Appetito!

Carlitos Tequileria, West Nyack

While technically not located in Bergen County, it's worth crossing the border into Rockland to check out the newly opened Carlitos Tequileria at the Palisades Center. The flavorful menu boasts starters like Crispy Pork Belly and a Salsa Tasting, while main courses include an extensive taco list (think: Carne Asada, Crispy Shrimp, Oak-Smoked Pulled Pork) along with items from the grill and kid-friendly options, too. While you're there, be sure to sip on some of their smooth tequilas for a filling day or night out.
