There are loads of restaurant openings around our area, but sometimes, one seriously catches our eye when the location and ambiance itself are just as good as the menu its serving. And both exist with the opening of Trata on the River in Piermont, sister restaurant to East Rutherford's Eli Mediterranean Restaurant which boasts a beautiful, luxury dining experience right here in Bergen County.
Trata also has a Mediterranean-inspired menu created by Chef José Luis Falcón who has worked at world class restaurants like Nobu. Dishes can be enjoyed in the roomy 350-seat space with year-round outdoor seating options overlooking the Hudson River and modern, floral-filled rooms with Greek decor that are guaranteed to transport you to another part of the world.
The menu is filled with innovative takes on classic Mediterranean dishes that you would expect to find, including a raw bar, appetizers like Greek corn fritters and crispy keftedes (Greek meatballs in a yogurt sauce), plus main course dishes with a pretty even split between fish and meat. You can choose from Santorini seafood pasta or whole fish like red snapper and lavraki, European sea bass. By land, choose from grilled butcher cuts filet mignon, lamp chops, and dry aged porterhouse for two. Plus, the menu is mainly gluten-free, with pasta substitutes available, too.
Sit at the expansive bar at this waterfront spot and enjoy a handcrafted cocktail, eat alfresco on the huge heating patio, or book your reservation for one of the comfortable tables or cushioned booths available. Trata is open seven days a week, serving up delicious, flavorful dishes from lunchtime at 11:30 until 10 pm weekdays, 12 am weekends, plus special brunch hours starting at 10:30 am on Saturdays and Sundays.
