The Fish Dock in Closter, A New Fish Market in Bergen County, NJ

Restaurants  /

Oh, how we’ve been casting our sights into unchartered waters, waiting with bated breath for a high quality fish market to finally arrive in Bergen County. And look, what a catch! The Fish Dock just opened in Closter.

Imported from pristine Icelandic waters, line caught and delivered within 48 hours, the Fish Dock is able to offer the freshest fish sourced from small fishing boats, including cod, haddock, redfish, monkfish, halibut, blue ling, and lemon & Dover sole. They also carry sustainably farmed salmon and their signature fish, Arctic Char, which is raised in crystal clear spring water that has been filtered through layers of natural lava rock that originated from a glacier nearby. European langoustine (also known as “scampi”) is another specialty – they’re a bit like “baby lobsters” and are very sought after in Europe.

Owners Olafur and Maria Baldursson have transformed this small space in the heart of Closter into a beautiful seafood market that is open Tuesday through Saturday and also serves a daily lunch special from 11am – 2pm. You can also call ahead for take-out cooked meals or select from a variety of marinated fish. Bonus: all marinates (like Spicy Citrus, Bombay Sweet Curry, Mango Chili and Mediterranean Herbs and Spices) are gluten free and non-GMO certified.

What separates the Fish Dock from other fish markets is that they hardly use any ice—each species is separated in its own tray to avoid cross contamination for those with shellfish allergies.

Lunch specials change daily – be sure to check their Facebook page, and reel it all in.
