Do you and your family care about what’s happening in the world and wish to be positive agents for change? Of course you do. Which is why sending your kid to a summer camp with a cause is one of the best things you can do for them.
YWCA of Bergen County is on a mission to eliminate racism, empower women, stand up for social justice, help families and strengthen communities. So, when it comes to offering summer camps for children, age 5 through 12, they provide a safe, enriching, and affordable summer camp experience where kids will develop self-confidence, learn to be more inclusive, explore emerging talents, and practice new sports and skills- all for a surprisingly gentle price.
At two local camps – Camp Ma-Kee-Ya in Mahwah, and Camp Orinda in Dumont –campers will have fun, make lifelong friendships and participate in daily activities such as American Red Cross swim lessons taught by certified staff, arts and crafts, music and drama, outdoor team sports, games, TGA Premier Junior Golf and Tennis, and nature lessons. Special events, like “Bouncy Friday,” a camp carnival, talent show, and Camp Olympics build teamwork and leadership skills.
For teens, counselor-in-training (CIT) programs for boys and girls ages 13 to 16 are also available at both of our locations. This unique program allows young adults to learn all about the demands and responsibilities of a counselor’s job while receiving community service credit for hours worked.
