If you’ve ever done private music lessons at home you already know that it can be a solitary experience without many opportunities to play in groups or on stage. It’s just you, the instructor, and your instrument. Bo-ring! At the Thurnauer School of Music, the experience is quite the opposite. Private lessons are dynamic. There is a tremendous amount of social interaction with other students, plenty of performance opportunities, and students become part of a diverse music community where the development and growth opportunities are endless. Lessons are open to the public, and anyone can enroll starting at age 3 on any instrument and at any skill level.
The Thurnauer experience includes instrumental lessons, ensembles and classes, plus recital opportunities, group performance ensembles like Thurnauer Youth Orchestra, Young People’s Chorus at Thurnauer, Teen Town Jazz Big Band and more. Current and former students have had the opportunity to learn and perform with such greats as Wynton Marsalis, Paula Robison, Paquito D’Rivera, Joshua Bell and Alan Gilbert.
