Let's be honest, choosing a school for your child is a big decision. You want a place that feels like a second home, where the people feel like family, and the curriculum is purposeful and inspiring. The Elisabeth Morrow School in Englewood, New Jersey has been educating children to be thinkers and leaders for almost a century, and it is living proof that academic excellence and a joyful, authentic childhood are not a compromise, but a powerful combination.

A Learning Environment Like No Other

Located on a lush and wooded 14-acre campus that is a certified wildlife habitat, The Elisabeth Morrow School offers a unique learning environment. The school has earned accolades like being an Apple Distinguished School for its innovative use of technology, and is also a UN Global School, a designation that underscores the commitment of its faculty to teaching children to be active and compassionate global citizens. Students explore and discover in computer science and robotics labs, innovation hubs, and educational gardens, where curiosity is encouraged at every turn. It's a place where children are invited to engage with the world around them, both indoors and out.

At EMS, the team has figured out the secret to raising happy, well-adjusted humans:
They believe a rigorous education and a joyful childhood are a both/and proposition, not an either/or. In other words, your child can become a deep-thinking, bold-leading scholar and still get to be a kid. The school isn’t just preparing students for the future; it's empowering them to shape it. That’s a bold claim, but if you’re a parent, you’re probably looking for a place that's as ambitious as you are.

The school serves children from age 2 through eighth grade, a crucial period where the wonder of childhood seamlessly evolves into the burgeoning independence of adolescence.

A Clear Path to the Next Level

A key benefit of The Elisabeth Morrow School is its secondary school placement process, which is designed to help families find the best possible fit for their child. Instead of simply pushing students toward the most competitive schools, the program focuses on preparing them to find a high school where they will truly thrive.

This process is built on a foundation of growth and self-awareness. Students learn to evaluate what they want and need in a learning environment. The Leadership Lab, a two-year signature program beginning in seventh grade, is a cornerstone of this preparation. It helps students build a portfolio of real-world experiences that showcase the creativity, collaboration, critical thinking, and communication skills that top secondary schools seek.

The program also provides scaffolded practice for the most nerve-wracking part of the application process: the interview. By the time an EMS student walks into a highly selective independent school for an interview, they have a strong sense of who they are and what they care about. This confidence, combined with a track record of strong academic performance, gives them a significant advantage.
