NJ is About to Get its First Cereal Bar

Restaurants  /

If you’re serious about your cereal, we’ve got good news: You won’t be relegated to whatever boring boxes you’ve got in the pantry once Spoony Sweets Cereal Cafe in Hamilton, NJ's first cereal bar, opens next month.

The place is pretty much an all-day breakfast bastion, offering 25 different varieties of cereal ranging from stalwarts like Frosted Flakes and Froot Loops to limited-time and seasonal specials. (Turns out Pop-Tarts cereal and Churros Toast Crunch were released in recent months. Who knew?) You’ll be able to build your own creation with toppings like sliced bananas, nuts, marshmallows, and cookie dough, along with drizzles of caramel, honey, raspberry or vanilla and then top the whole thing off with cereal’s more conservative counterpart – milk – whether it’s regular, chocolate, or a plant-based version.

Cereal-obsessed owners Medina and Ryan have done the math and it turns out there are 40,000 (!) different combinations possible. But not to worry. If you find yourself overwhelmed by the choices, you can go with one of the shop’s signature “Spoony Mix-Ups” that have been taste-tested and sure to be beauty in a bowl. Also expect other all-day offerings like muffins, cereal bars, Pop-Tarts, and coffee.

Look for Spoony Sweets to open in late February, when you’ll surely be in need a new idea for a treat-filled day trip with the kids in the dead of winter. Cereal on a Saturday afternoon? Yep. New year, new breakfast rules.
