Kidville Englewood (20 Grand Avenue, Englewood, 201-266-0633)
If you haven’t already popped into Kidville Englewood’s gleaming storefront on Grand Avenue or used the adjacent lot (attendees can enjoy hassle-free parking) then you haven’t experienced what we’ve termed the “Thrill of the Ville”. This go-to spot for all things mini including curated classes (standouts include Rockin’ Railroad and Toddlers in Tutus), Kidville U (a Preschool Alternative program), Camps, a boutique and salon, Bergen Mamas are finally experiencing the all-in-one ease of Kidville that NYC moms have been enjoying for years.
Wyckoff YMCA (691 Wyckoff Avenue, Wyckoff, 201-891-2081)
There are plenty of well priced classes at this Wyckoff center including many for the under 5 set (think art, gymnastics and yoga, as well as mommy baby playgroups). But the real draw is the Y’s commitment to fitness and an active lifestyle. Besides the obvious facility attributes of a swimming pool, full scale fitness center with an array of classes and basketball courts, the center encourages and sets up training programs for kids to participate in everything from Triathalons to Fun Runs, so young competitors can set goals and train with experts who will help them reach them. Bonus: for a small additional fee, members can enjoy activities and swimming at the Y’s very own Spring Lake Park during the summer months.
Bergen YJCC (605 Pascack Road , Township of Washington, 201- 666-6610)
Bergen Mamas nestled close to this Washington Township based center can enjoy a Parenting Center which has continually been adding programs geared towards moms with young children. While Mommy and Me playgroups and Parent Toddler Playgroups have been long time favorite gathering spots, the YJCC is now also offering more specialized classes like “Mini Masterpieces”, a hands on art experience for kids ages 5months to 5 years and “Not Quite Nursery”, the perfect bridge class for independent toddlers. Classes are open to nonmembers but members get the benefit of discounted pricing and full use of the facilities.
Ridgewood YMCA (112 Oak Street, Ridgewood, 201-444-5600)
Between year-round swim team, lifeguard training and swim lessons, the Ridgewood Y’s indoor pool is a big draw to their gorgeous facility. Plus, moms love the Tiny Tot Soccer and Little Samurai Karate programs to get their little ones up and active. Another bonus? Their emphasis on education and leadership offers amazing programs like the Leaders Club to help your children shine and grow while learning leadership skills. A great place to park yourself (and the kids).
Ridgewood Library (125 N. Maple Rd. Ridgewood, 201-670-5600)
A well kept secret among library goers is Ridgewood Library’s vast array of children and teen programming. When it’s chilly outside and you want to hibernate, look no further than the library’s catalogue of activities and signature classes such as Creative Writing Workshops (grades 4 through 6), Movie Matinees, Story and Craft Projects, and Reading to a Dog. Bonus: Non-Ridgewood residents can still enjoy this programming by purchasing a Guest Membership kids card.
