Two New Restaurants Upping Your Lunch Game in Bergen County NJ

Restaurants  /

Lunch doesn’t have to mean wolfing down a protein bar in between mom duties, nuking last night’s leftovers in the office microwave, or spelunking for stale Cheerios while cleaning out your kid’s car seat. Whether you’ve got an hour or an afternoon, we’ve got two great new restaurants in Bergen County where you can fill your gut and put an end to the lunchtime rut.

Don’t call this Ridgewood dine-in/take-out chain restaurant fast food. Call it real food—fast! Founded by brothers who hated how fast food made them feel, b.good makes all of its ever-changing fresh and healthy menu offerings—including all-natural beef and veggie burgers, gourmet sandwiches, made-to-order smoothies, seasonal salads, kale and grain bowls, and more—using ingredients sourced from local purveyors.

We stopped by for lunch last week, intending to get our orders to go, but once we stepped into the clean, light-filled space, we decided to stay (psst, order online and avoid the wait). Our top picks? The Harvest Kale Salad, which comes loaded with Brussels sprouts, Manchego, sunflower seeds, beets, acorn squash, and garbanzo beans tossed in a sherry vinaigrette; the Roasted Butternut Salad, featuring baby spinach topped with tofu, butternut squash, sharp cheddar, apples, tamari almonds, dried cranberries, and pomegranates tossed in a maple-mustard vinaigrette; and the Curry & Grilled Avocado Quinoa Bowl, which comes stuffed with kale, sautéed veggies, cauliflower, roasted red pepper, peas, almonds in a mint-yogurt sauce.

Hint: Portions here are generous—ask for your dressing on the side, and take the leftovers home for dinner!

Farmhouse Café & Eatery

Have a little more time to linger while you lunch? You’ll be hard-pressed to find a more leisurely spot to enjoy some good ol’ country hospitality—and more than a little delicious food! Already a hit in Cresskill, Farmhouse’s new Westwood location offers a similarly extensive menu of gourmet salads, deluxe burgers, stuffed-to-the-gills sandwiches, sides, and sharing plates, all at more-than-reasonable prices. Warning: you might find yourself sitting and staying a while. On the plus side, dinner service—featuring all kinds of comfort food favorites (Spinach Turkey Meatloaf, anyone?)—starts at 5pm!
