Step inside the brand new, 30,000 square foot behemoth Equinox Paramus and you will learn how large scale fitness centers can still survive, and thrive. Opened last month on Rte 17North, the newest outpost of Equinox is an industrial chic modern space which features every cutting edge piece of equipment and class in the fitness industry, spa-like locker rooms and showers (hello Kiehls products!) and a tricked out kiddie care area where they promise to keep your tots “active” and engaged.
And fitness buffs are buzzing: cardio decks on each floor, ample space for strength training and cross training, plus a wide array of one on one training options for clients (Tier 1 training to Master Tier 4), where each “Training Level” provides clients with a custom-designed fitness program based on each clients’ needs.
But the class offerings were what really got our heart racing. Yes, the schedule is chock full of typical favorites with modern touches (Studio Cycling with monitors tracking RPM and calories burned, a Pilates room filled with brand new Reformers, and a Zen Yoga Studio offering everything from Ashtanga to Power Yoga Flow) but we had crazy fun taking their exclusive “Signature Equinox” classes. We loved MetCon3, a metabolic conditioning circuit class that felt like Cross Fit meets Boot Camp. And judging from the crowd, it’s no longer a guarded secret. We were also able to re-live our college crew days while taking “Shockwave” which brings Indo Rowing machines into the circuit along with kettlebells and VIPR bars.
And the space was designed to make you linger. Before you run for the door, you can hang in the café sippin on a healthy libation from the juice bar, or grab a reiki session in the spa. Then hit the boutique, stocked with all the active wear (think Lulu and Splendid) a fashionably-fit gal could want.
(Single Club Memberships start at $135 per month, not including initiation fee)
