The Nature Place Summer Camp is a Breath of Fresh Air [dedicated]

Camps  /

Perhaps you have a child who is more contemplative than they are competitive. Or maybe you have a child who requires serenity rather than stimulation, or who is in need of a reason to slow down and take a deep breath. If any of these are the case, or if you are just committed to giving your child a good, old fashioned, outdoors kind of summer, you’ll want to check out The Nature Place Day Camp

An oasis of forests, fields, swamps, farms and streams, The Nature Place offers much needed tranquility to kids living in an increasingly fast-paced, technology-saturated world. Here your child can unplug and explore without the pressure of sports, awards or distractions such as TV or video games.

Located on 200 acres in Chestnut Ridge, New York, The Nature Place is a family-owned day camp where campers ages 4 – 16 are encouraged to connect to both the earth and themselves. During the main camp program (July 1 – August 9), your child will be outside all day exploring, creating and playing. Campers experience hands-on, pressure-free programming in areas such as gardening, cooking, swimming, earth art, games, hiking, music, drama, storytelling, farming, live animal programs, archery and more. And did we mention the camping program which is progressive in the skills they teach and the trips on which they embark? Younger campers learn basic camping skills and go on an "Almost Overnight", then, beginning at age 8 and progressing upward, campers increase their skill level, going out for longer periods of time and undertaking more challenging outdoor adventures (think on-site overnights, backpacking and canoeing trips and even a Delaware River camping/canoeing adventure).

Campers may return the week of August 12 – 16 an additional week in an area of interest including: Farm & Garden Days, a specialized, hands-on farm, garden and nature experience (ages 5-13), Art & Earth, where art and nature unite (ages 9 – 14), Music & Movement, a week of percussion, dance and storytelling (ages 8 – 14), or Passages, a week-long overnight wilderness experience for kids ages 13-16.

If you’ve got a child who could use a breath of fresh air, contact The Nature Place to learn more about their unique, cooperative approach to the summer day camp experience.
