Last summer, you and the kiddos spent so much time shuttling to and from various far-flung day camps, you could have called it Camp Carpool. This year, you’ve vowed to stay closer to home – but don’t want anyone to miss out on those traditional, nature-filled camp experiences either.
Thankfully, there’s a new camp that has the best of both worlds right here in our Bergen backyard, Eretz, a new program this summer for children entering 3rd-6th grades, is now being offered by the Neil Klatskin Day Camp of the Kaplen JCC on the Palisades.
Think 600 acres of sleepaway-like adventures, based at Alpine Scout Camp in Alpine, NJ, conveniently located just 10 minutes north of the JCC, with air-conditioned transportation included. The meticulously manicured grounds are constantly monitored by highly trained, professional park rangers and programming is designed to fit the needs and interests of your tween. The camp touts a large swimming pool with locker rooms, sports fields and courts, an archery range, an indoor activity center with a stage; pioneering and nature activity areas, a fitness activity area, a 20-foot high fort, mine shaft, and a climbing tower. Wow! Also part of the fun: Weekly excursions for 5th and 6th graders and bi-weekly trips for 3rd & 4th graders, overnights both at camp and at other locations, and a sleep away experience for 5th and 6th graders.
