Scratch n Sniff Stamps! Just in Time for Summer

Trends  /

Now let’s see. You’ve ironed the name tags into the underwear, snuck an extra towel and a warm pair of socks into the sleep away camp duffel and sighed over the fact that 2/3 of the clothes you’re packing will come home unworn. Related: you’ve very carefully NOT spent any time thinking about how few showers your child will take this summer. Now there’s only one thing left to do: try not to tear up as you wave good-bye and write often using the brand new Scratch and Sniff Stamps from the USPS.

We can’t really help you with the crying thing. But we can help you with the writing part. Or at least the, getting-snaps-from-your-kid-for-being-sorta-cooler-than-they-thought thing. Because we can remind you that on Wednesday, June 20th, the United States Postal Service will be revealing their first ever scratch-n-sniff stamps. These Frozen Forever stamps will, “add the sweet scent of summer to letters of love, friendship, party invitations and other mailings” and will make writing letters just that much more enjoyable.

Got a kid who doesn’t sleep away? These stamps might be just the bribe you need to get them to write their birthday thank you notes or a surprise letter to Grandma telling her about their summer. Or, set up a neighborhood “chain letter”. Have your kid start by sending a letter to two friends. At the end of the letter, have your child ask the friends to write one letter to a different friend and one back to her. And so on and so on!

If you’re the pre-planning type, first we’d like to ask you how you do that and then we’d like to tell you that you can pre-order these scratch-n-sniff stamps for delivery shortly after the official reveal. Books of 20 stamps cost $10 each and come in a variety of shapes and flavors. Then you can sit back and rack up the coolness points as your kids get a special treat at mail call.

Thanks USPS! You’ve managed to make snail mail cool and sweet this summer!
