Preschool. You never thought you’d get here, but it’s time for your little one to go to school and you’re faced with the task of choosing the right one not only for your child, but for your whole family. The Leonard and Syril Rubin Nursery School at the Kaplen JCC on the Palisades is everything you could want in a school plus lots of extras you didn’t know you needed. They are a child-centered preschool with a progressive curriculum. Children enjoy hands-on, experiential learning that develops their cognition, their social and emotional growth, their fine and gross motor skills and their reading and math readiness, all in a way that establishes a strong sense of self and accomplishment. The Nursery School collaborates with the senior department to provide the unique “Grandfriends” program, in which a senior is partnered with nursery school classes throughout the year. They also offer extended hours (7:30 am – 6:00 pm), an infant program for babies as young as 3 months, with a seamless transition to the toddler program, and half- or full day options.
