Mother Earth gets a bum rap. She is the mother of all mothers, the provider of water and our fragile ecosystem, but still we don’t give her the care she needs or deserves. Yes, we recycle and make sure to turn lights off when we’re not home, but doesn’t our planet need just a little more attention?
Well, its not too late give her a little extra lovin’.
Here are some weekend Earth Day events that will help you pay homage to our dear Mother Earth:
Party for the Planet at the Bergen County Zoo
Celebrate Earth Day at our one and only Bergen Zoo. Local conservationists will be on hand with special exhibits. Kids will be given their very own “passport” which can be stamped at each exhibit. The zoo will also have their annual Sheep Shearing event during the festivities; you can actually watch the sheep get a haircut! And bonus, the event is completely free and open to all visitors.
Sunday, April 25th 10am-4pm
Bergen County Zoo at Van Saun Park
Cresskill’s Earthfest 2010
Cresskill embraces Earth Day with a whole load of activities kicking off at the Cresskill Community Center. First, you and your family can help do a community “clean-up”. Next is a bike ride and fun walk, followed by two live shows featuring birds of prey. Live music too!
Saturday April 24th 9am-6pm
Cresskill Community Center
100 3rd Street, Cresskill
Stone Barnes Center for Food and Agriculture
Celebrate at Stone Barns Center’s annual Sheep Shearing Day! Observe and ask questions as their farmers shear wool from a flock of Finn-Dorset sheep, and visit their sheep and wool education stations. Watch spinners at work and learn to comb and card wool alongside educators. Try your hand at using a drop spindle or a mini-loom, and enjoy felting and knitting activities for children and adults.
