There are five surefire words that can send chills up a mom’s spine: “I wanna have a sleepover.” Sure, having all your child’s BFFs over to binge on pizza and Disney+ starts out fine enough, but things inevitably go off the rails when it comes to the sleeping part, in part because a bunch of sleeping bags lined up on the floor doesn’t exactly lure kids to bed in the first place.
Enter Mega Celebrations, a Central Jersey-based service that plans the sleepover for you, showing up at your door with everything you need to pull it off. Besides the basics like mattresses, sheets and blankets, the crew comes with Pinterest-worthy decor and accessories including decorative pillows, string lights, tray tables, lanterns, and even real-deal glamping-style tents.
The service is the brainchild of Meg Ruperto, an admitted “over-the-top” party planner who came up with the idea while on maternity leave. “My mom had always made my parties so special for me growing up and I wanted to do the same for other kids,” she says. “I remembered seeing the idea for sleepover tents on Pinterest a few years back and I kept thinking how fun that would have been to have as a kid.”
She teamed up with her husband, Tyler, who, as luck would have it, is a woodworker and DIY expert, to craft a slew of tents around different themes. There are current six different ones including Magical Unicorn, with unicorn and rainbow stuffed animals and mint-green tents; Ice Queen, with shimmery fabrics, snowflake accents, and of course, images of Elsa; and Boho Bliss, the most popular theme with navy-and-white materials, and hanging dreamcatchers. A few more themes are currently in the works, according to Ruperto.
Packages start at $350 for six tents with add-on options like pillowcase crafting and favors including monogrammed slippers and personalized robes. They’re currently booking a month or two out (and charge a travel fee if you’re more than 25 miles from Bridgewater), so book ‘em for your kid’s birthday now and pat yourself on the back for being able to pull off a stellar sleepover without an ounce of planning. Unfortunately, actual sleep not guaranteed.
