The Dylan Candy Bar Collection for LeSportsac has launched and is filled with tons of gift items that put smiles on our own kids’ (and this moms) faces. Filled with candy crush-worthy designed totes, gym duffels, pouches and purses, you can will be able to find a gift for anyone on your list.
We caught up with Dylan in her ‘hood (Manhattan’s Upper East Side) for some coffee and treats (obvs) and found out everything from what her holiday traditions are to what type of treat she just can’t resist.
What are the Holidays like in the Lauren household? And what is your favorite tradition?
(laughing) My parents’ anniversary is around the same time, I’m actually meeting them tonight to celebrate, so typically there is a lot going on. We are Jewish, but we do celebrate all of the holidays together… I mean in terms of candy I always give people holiday colored candy canes, red and green whirly pops, I just love all the colors- so we have gold and silver stars and then blue and white for Hanukkah. I mean it’s really festive for a day, but I think we are all at the point where “what do we get anyone” so we are more into activities right now. For example, I went skeet shooting with my parents and took my brother to see the Brick Exhibit- it’s all about spending time together.
What is your top holiday gift pick for this year in your collection for LeSportsac?
It’s funny because although the bags are different price points, I think it becomes a top gift if its some ones favorite style bag or shape. I gave my mom the cosmetic bag because she needs that and it totally stands out from her other stuff, she has the nice elegant things but this is more of a playful thing. So it’s not the most expensive but it’s meaningful for her. For my friends, they are all new moms, so I gave them the Montauk totes because those have the diaper bag shape and has so many pockets. And some other friends- they love the duffel bags and the weekenders because they travel a lot and they can easily throw stuff in and go. And of course I fill them with candy. It’s the perfect gift, it’s the right price point, its not so subjective as “this is going to be my arm bag” so it’s easy.
What was the inspiration behind a candy store?
I love everything about candy! It’s really as simple as that. I really find candy to be so beautiful to look at and you really can see this in the LeSportsac collection. For me it’s about the colors and the patterns and the textures of candy. I used to collect candy around the world for is packaging, shapes and graphics, also the new flavors to try. Candy is like fashion and art all in one, which evolved into me making art out of candy…tables out of gumballs and mosaics out of jellybeans. Being in the business of candy wasn’t really my first business choice. Originally, I was going to showcase the art I made out of candy and then it transitioned from there. I was very inspired by pop art and things I found that were fashionable.
Fill in the blank, if this candy were in front of me right now, I wouldn’t be able to control myself!
Marshmallow Fluff! Seriously, I had a shoot today and I was at my in laws for Thanksgiving and the last thing I wanted was to be eating THAT kind of food right before, but my father-in-law is like “I got you your favorite thing! Two cans of marshmallow fluff!” and it was sitting there for a week but I finally gave in, that’s really my weakness.
