Five New Fitness Studios Coming to Bergen County

Fitness  /

We know, we know. If you hear that "swimsuit season is just around the corner" one more time you're going to club someone over the head with a kettle bell. But since working out is something we try to put on our to-do list all year long (though it's a lot easier to skip when you've got a bulky sweater on), the fact that five new fitness studios are opening in Bergen County is a good thing for sure. Here's the rundown on all the new spots to make you sweat.

Bar Method Closter: You've probably heard of Bar Method, the fast-paced form of interval training that focuses on reshaping muscles for leaner, slimmer physiques. After building a loyal following in Englewood, owner Shirley Morris is now launching a second studio in the new Closter Plaza. Her first location became best known for its abundance is natural light and elbow room in class and for the effort instructors make to get to know students. (Though that means they'll happily use it both to compliment you and to call you out when you're slacking.) Expect this studio to be larger with showers, ample parking, and child care. Yes, please, and thank you.

Sweat Glen Rock: Sweat's indoor cycling studios in Ramsey and Franklin Lakes have proven to be uber successful, and if the absolutely gorgeous new studio is any indication, the Glen Rock location is sure to be a hit too. The place, fresh off its soft opening, offers perks like child care and a first free class for newbies, as well as discounted grand opening pricing.  It's also got 17 butt-kicking instructors on its roster teaching more than 20 classes a week, from beginner to advanced, so there's officially no excuse not to go.

Active Life Fusion

Get bored easily? Like two-classes-and-you-want-to-move-on-to-something-totally-different bored? Then this one's for you. Business partners Aidan Walsh and Lindsay Finkel have taken their Racefaster brand to the next level by opening a studio in the former Powerflow Yoga space in Ridgewood. Newly expanded offerings include yoga, Pilates, and cardio workouts along with its signature fusion classes that kick off with 30 minutes of high interval training followed by another 30 minutes of strength or stretching to tone and recover. Bonus: Active Life also has kids, tween, and teen classes along with family yoga workshops on the schedule.

CycleBar Fort Lee and Cyclebar Closter: It's the fastest-growing cycling franchise in the country for a reason: There's no membership necessary, you simply pay as you go, and the super-duper high energy classes feature 50 bikes, LED lighting, great graphics, and state-of-the-art audio with a DJ booth. Cyclists can also track their performances via the studio's own Cyclestats and even download the tunes from the most recent class to keep the energy going at home. Expect its first location in Bergen County at the new Shops at Hudson Lights in Fort Lee. (CycleBar, 2012 Hudson Street, Fort Lee) And like we said- they are growing fast. If Fort Lee isn't convenient for you, then just wait a few months and you can pedal it out at its new location in Closter, set to open this fall. (CycleBar, 2025 Vervalen Street, Closter)

Crossfit Waldwick: Okay crossfit addicts, pay attention. The fitness gods were listening and heeded your prayers because Brandon Renert, a former Jr. Olympic Powerlifter, and crossfit enthusiast has just taken over the 10,000 square ft space that was formerly Greenhouse Golf in Waldwick's Superdome and built a very huge box, officially opened on May 1st. No need to be intimated either, Renert is committed to making this a real community with a welcoming vibe. Programming will improve all components of fitness - strength, power, endurance stamina, coordination, flexibility, balance, speed, agility and accuracy and classes are accessible and safe for everyone.
