Blu Sushi NJ Serves Up Sushi in Ridgewood

Restaurants  /

Attention, holiday eaters: they’re dunzo! Time to trim all those heavy trimmings off your plates, ditch those ever-present dessert platters, and put your eating pants out to pasture by making the switch to something a little lighter and healthier when dinner time rolls around (mmm, rolls). Speaking of rolls, now is the perfect time to pay a visit to Blu Sushi.

Located in the former Picnic on the Square space, this Ridgewood sushi spot (with a wildly successful sister location down the shore) serves up an array of super-fresh sushi and sashimi, tempura, teriyaki, and other Japanese specialties. Feeling a little bloated and over-served after the holidays, we stopped in recently to say “Kon'nichiwa” and were instantly impressed by its minimalist oh-so-Japanese décor.

But even more impressive was the food. After starting with an order of traditional steamed edamame ($5) and Ginger Calamari (grilled calamari served with a delicious sweet ginger sauce; $8), we shared a delicious Shrimp Tempura roll ($7), which arrived drizzled with a light eel sauce, and the Lunch Combo ($17) which is four pieces sushi and nine pieces sashimi (all chef’s choice), and a classic spicy tuna roll. All were YUM! Have a kid who’s not fond of raw fish? Not to worry. The kid’s menu has plenty of dishes (i.e. chicken fingers, fried shrimp, mozzarella sticks, or a Philly cheesesteak roll, all served with AMAZING waffle fries) that they’ll gobble up, even if they haven’t mastered manipulating chopsticks.

This new addition to the Ridgewood dining scene is definitely here to stay.
