American Dream Is Dropping DreamWorks Water Park Soon

Day Trips  /

The thing we couldn’t help but notice about the multi-billion-dollar mega-mall American Dream is that everything has to be impressively over-the-top and go beyond what any of us has ever seen before. Because, well, see above -- there are billions involved.

There isn’t just an indoor amusement park, there’s the country’s largest amusement park, Nickelodeon Universe, one of just two locations in the nation (the other is at the Mall of America) and home to some record-breaking roller coasters. AD won’t just be home to a food hall, it’s going to open a space touting 100 eating establishments in a 38,000-foot space that’s part of the first Vice Media-affiliated MUNCHIES Food Hall. And then, of course, there’s Big Snow, the  long-awaited 16-story, climate-controlled indoor ski and snowboard park clocking in at 180,000 square feet and the first of its kind in America.

So it’s no wonder that American Dream’s water park -- originally slated to launch on November 27th (but delayed as of today) -- is going to be something super special, going well behind a few slides and a lazy river. The DreamWorks Water Park (yes as in the behemoth animation studio that’s responsible for a few minor hits like Shrek, How to Tame Your Dragon, and Kung Fu Panda) will -- surprise, surprise -- become the largest indoor water park in North America.

As for what to expect, visitors can make a splash in 15 attractions, including branded offerings like Madagascar’s Rain Forest, Shrek’s Swamp and the Kung Fu Panda Zone along with 40 different water slides, including the world’s tallest indoor body slide clocking in at a cringe-inducing 142 feet. The place will also be home to the world’s largest wave pool (see what we mean?), the 1.5-acre PerfectSwell. And if you’re simply just there to supervise the set of swimmers and sliders you have in tow, you can luxuriate in one of the park’s 31 luxury cabanas designed by Garden State native Jonathan Adler. We’ll go out on a limb and say he’s the biggest celeb designer to ever create waterpark seating, but we can’t be sure ...
