Having a bad day? We know what can make it better. Doughnuts. But not just any doughnut. We mean a good one. The kind that you devour and then seriously consider having a second one. Just because. But where to get these doughnuts that make it okay that the dog shredded your new draperies and your kid lost a shoe (just one) and the car needs new brakes? Here are 7 Delicious Doughnut Spots in Bergen County that are Totally Worth the Calories.

Kai Sweets Mitsuwa: You might need to sit down for this. There is such a thing as a mochi doughnut. And it now exists in Bergen County. Mitsuwa Marketplace in Edgewater is the first place to have these unicorns of yumminess and you are going to want to find an excuse to visit to have one. But, but what are they? Think combo doughnut/mochi. Deliciously sweet and chewy at the same time. Flavors include yuzu citrus, lime, caramel almond and, (hopefully this wasn't just for Valentine's Day) raspberry chocolate. We're just going to leave all this right here. 597 River Road, Edgewater

Krispy Kreme: Okay, let’s start with the mack daddy. The sign is up and Krispy Kreme will soon be baking them hot, fresh and now at their new location in the Liberty Commons shopping center in East Rutherford. If you can, you’re going to want them right as they come off the belt, dripping with glaze and melting in your mouth. The best part about the new location is, it’ll have a drive through. So no one will have to know you that you were wearing jammies and bunny slippers while you got your morning sugar fix. 51 Route 17, East Rutherford

Glaze: If you want variety, this is the place to go. Glaze artisan doughnuts are hand crafted in small batched throughout the day. And with locations in New Milford, West Caldwell AND Fort Lee, there is always one that is close enough to make it worth the trip. Which doughnuts should you try? Well, they’re the original home of the Italian Rainbow doughnut, so that’s a good place to start. But then you’ll have to resolve the cake vs. yeast doughnut debate. Or maybe just get a few of each. Psst! They also offer delivery and catering! 358 River Road, New Milford, 554 Passaic Ave, West Caldwell, 2151 Lemoine Ave, Fort Lee

D’Ercole Donuts: This family owned and operated doughnut and coffee shop has something special going for it. They are tree and peanut free – a big plus for folks who have allergies but love doughnuts. Choose from regular cake doughnuts or devil’s food cake doughnuts with a variety of toppings. Our picks would be the chocolate covered strawberry or the churro cheesecake. Or, hold out for the twice monthly rainbow cookie doughnuts (also available by special order). 489 Tappan Road, Northvale

La Promenade: Possibly the best thing that happened to doughnuts in the past decade is the invention of the croughnut. And La Promenade has embraced that improvement with gusto. Their croughnuts are renowned and, possibly even dreamed about. So go get some. Flavors in the case vary daily. 137 Piermont Road, Tenafly

Top That: For those who believe that more is better when it comes to doughnuts, Top That is the place for you. You can either indulge in one of their preconceived concoctions or, make up one of your own. Extra bonus: you can make this a destination and an outing when you need something to entertain the kids for a while. 8 Highland Cross, Rutherford

Donut King: Part of the doughnut renaissance in the Northern Valley, Donut King has made quite a name for themselves on the pastry scene. Stop in for reliably good doughnuts and a chat with the friendly staff. 5 Broad Street, Norwood
