We checked in with Debbie Rosen-Alfonso of The Camp Experts Teen Summers on what to do (and not to do) for Visiting Day. Here’s the skinny:
DO check your camp handbook for what is allowed in your specific camp.
DO bring family photos if you did not pack them. Campers like to have pictures near them (including pets).
DON’T overload on the food. Most camps will not allow your child to keep the food. Pack enough for visiting day.
DO bring enough for the entire bunk. If you are baking cookies, fun bunk games, etc. Campers love sharing with the rest of the bunk.
If you are packing a picnic lunch, DO pack enough for the counselors (they usually love the home-cooked meals)
DO pack extra drinks. It is a long day and hot. You will not always want to go to the dining room for refreshments.
DO bring lawn chairs, blankets, etc. Anything to make your day comfortable and enjoyable.
DON’T forget your bathing suits, towels, tennis racquets, baseball mitts, etc.
DON’T prolong your goodbye. It will be an emotional time and the best thing you can do is leave on a positive note.
DO slip a surprise note under your child’s pillow so they can find it when you leave.
MOST OF ALL: ENJOY YOUR DAY!!!
