Vegan Eating in Bergen County NJ is Easy at These 8 Spots

Wellness  /

17 Summer, Lodi

We sort of think Chef Joseph Cuccia, the chef/owner at 17 Summer can make anything taste good so we’d put ourselves in his capable hands any day when it comes to vegan food. Which is why we were so excited to hear that 17 Summer is now offering monthly vegan tasting dinners. The next dinner will be held on April 10that 7:30 pm and will include a 5-course dinner that highlights seasonal vegetables in a plant based celebration. We can also mark our calendars for a special night out at the James Beard House where, on June 11th, Chef Joseph and co-owner Jenna, will also be showcasing their vegan cooking chops.

ALT Eats, Ho-Ho-Kus

A staple among the moms-who-lunch crowd, ALT Eats has built a reputation as the place to go for tasty, reliable vegan and vegetarian fare. Recent menu items that will almost make you forget they’re vegan include blueberry muffins, everything pinwheels (dough wrapped deliciousness), black bean and corn chowder and lite curried vegetables over rice. Hungry? Yeah, we are too!

Organica, Northvale

Head in for the juices, smoothies and shakes but stay for the breakfast and lunch offerings that include all organic proteins and produce and a selection of vegetarian and vegan options. Vegan grab n go offerings include an avocado and sprout or an eggplant and Portobello sandwich, or a fakin’ bacon wrap.  Great for those days when you need to eat in the car on the way from this kid’s soccer game to that kid’s dance rehearsal.

Roots Cafe, Northvale

At Roots, you can expect not only raw, plant-based dishes but also a commitment to reducing waste by requesting that you bring your own cup, mug or other utensils. Menu highlights include avocado toast, neat balls made with carrots, almonds, sundried tomatoes and spices and topped with Roots homemade sauce, and breakfast sorbet with buckwheat cereal and peanut butter. Don’t want to head all the way to Northvale for your raw food fix? No worries.  Roots Café also has a food truck that can be booked for events and festivals.

True Food Market, Westwood

You can’t eat out all the time. So when you’re ready to whip up some vegan specialties of your own, start your shopping at True Food Market, sister to the restaurant and market located in Nyack. True Food Market has tons of fresh, gorgeous produce, ingredients to suit almost any dietary lifestyle and easy meals-on-the-go for these crazy nights when you have too many places to be and too little time to get there.

Playa Bowls, Multiple Locations

When snack time rolls around, it’s nice to be near a Playa Bowl location. Plus, the best thing is, they’ve got something delicious for everyone. It’s super easy to go the vegan route by making your own smoothie or bowl with any of the yummy plant-based options they offer. You’re totally going to want to make this place your stop every single day.

Sprinklez, Hillsdale

The brand new Sprinklez ice cream shop has said that they would have two vegan flavors when they open their doors later this week. So see? You won’t even have to deprive yourself of decadent dessert in the name of better health.

Fresh from the Grove

If you’re looking for a little food porn, head over to the Instagram feed of private, plant-based chef, Julie Groveman, @freshfromtheGrove. Her mouthwatering photos and yummy sounding meals will make the vegan lifestyle look appealing to even the most diehard of carnivores in the bunch. We were especially taken with her zucchini pizza, her breakfasts and her mixed greens and cauliflower salad bowl. Want to get some of this goodness on your own plate? DM Julie for information and menus.
