Not everyone is lucky enough to have grown up with an Old World Italian relative who was a whiz at whipping up handmade meatballs and so-good-you-wanna-slap-yo-mama sauce for Sunday night supper. Heck, some of us can’t even boil pasta right (mamma mia!). If this sounds like you, consider making Uncle Giuseppe’s Marketplace a member of your extended family.
Recently opened in Ramsey—following huge successes at five nearby NY locations—this full-service specialty supermarket features 50,000 square feet of everything you need to stage your own authentic family style Italian feast. Shopping at Uncle Giuseppe’s Marketplace is like a taking a trip back in time when grocery shopping meant making separate trips to the local butcher, baker, cheesemaker, and the like, only with way fewer trips and pressure to find a parking spot (Uncle Giuseppe’s has a whole lot full of free ones right out front!)
We stopped by recently to peruse the aisles and were blown away by the breadth and quality of everything our new favorite uncle had to offer: all kinds of organic produce, a fully staffed butcher department where you’ll actually be happy to take a number, a massive seafood selection stocked by in-house fishmongers, an aromatic in-store bakery offering gourmet desserts (cannolis for days!) and oven-fresh breads straight from Arthur Avenue, and tons more delicious departments (tip: in case your little one starts to lose it, head straight to the gelato station).
But it might be the prepared foods portion of this place that makes us want to give Uncle Giuseppe’s a great big hug. With more than 130 ready-to-go dishes to choose from—everything from lasagna, broccoli rabe, penne al Balsamico, family-sized Sicilian pizzas, even Cap’n Crunch chicken fingers for the kids—it’s the next best thing to home cooking.
