Are your little angels out of school yet? Only a few more weeks? Days? And then it’s summer, carefree and full of love, right? But between now and then you have to get through the end of year school picnics and parties. So, plan a little grown-up time for yourself while you still can. It may be the only way you’ll get through field day alive.
The good news is that we have just the thing for you. The Sunset Safari cocktail reception to celebrate the opening of the Essex County Turtle Back Zoo’s new $3.6 million Lion and Hyena Exhibit is scheduled for Friday, June 9th from 6:00 to 8:00 pm (purchase tickets here) The exhibit’s sure to be a real looker with a half-acre of landscaped space including a pool, exposed rock formation, and a single-story building designed to resemble a dilapidated fortress.
The kids will think it’s great, but they can’t come to the reception because all attendees must be at least 21 years old. So, leave them with your spouse, a grandparent, a sitter, a friend, a neighbor, a stranger. OK, probably not a stranger, but let someone else handle the bedtime routine. Slip on your favorite leopard print shoes because the attire is safari-chic, and prepare yourself for a grow up night out. Once you’re at the zoo, you can say hello to the new animals from a safe distance, chat with the professionals who know them best, and enjoy the live entertainment, an animal-themed silent auction, appetizers, beer, and wine.
When you get home, kiss your little sleeping hyenas good night, and in the morning, tell them all about the new exhibit that they’re going to love. You can take them there just as soon as they’re done with school.
