We’ve always been super jealous of all the lucky ducks who live near a True Food Kitchen, a chain of stylish eateries serving seriously good and good-for-you fare in cities from Chicago to San Diego. But we’ve got some great news (and you probably know where this is going): New Jersey is about to get its first-ever True Food Kitchen and it’s going to open right here in Bergen County at revamped The Shops at Riverside in Hackensack.
The restaurant concept is pretty unique: The rotating menus are created by a team of inventive chefs guided by Dr. Andrew Weil’s anti-inflammatory food pyramid, taking advantage of the inherent health benefits and fab flavors of seasonal ingredients with an emphasis on superfoods. The result is an offering of delish dishes ranging from ancient grain bowls to veggie-packed salads to pumpkin-seed-pesto-glazed salmon to an absolute killer (and addictive) quinoa burger.
And since even the healthiest of eaters like to imbibe sometimes, the place has a solid sustainable wine and craft beer list along with seasonal cocktails made with organic spirits. Case in point: This summer’s menu includes a yummy blueberry lavender martini and strawberry rhubarb margarita. The bad news is we’re not going to be able to get in on the True Food fun this summer since it won’t be opening until the spring of 2020. (But it’ll be here before you know it!) And while you could make the trip to the next closest TFK in King of Prussia, be warned: Once you become a True Food junkie there’s no going back ...
