Broadway shows are fab and all, but they require a decent dose of planning, traffic fighting and/or public transportation drama, and, of course, come with a pretty hefty price tag. (Yes, even if you show up at TKTS and hope for the best.)
For a taste of the arts without all of the above, head to our own Westfield Garden State Plaza, which has partnered with local performing arts nonprofit Bergen Performing Arts Center to present a variety of family-friendly shows, sing-a-longs, and character meet-and-greets all year long. And don’t worry: Your perennially jam-packed weekend schedule stop you and the fam from taking part. Every Saturday, the mall will put on four shows at 10am, 11am, 12pm and 1pm, so you’ll likely be able to squeeze one in. You can see the full schedule of upcoming FREE shows here.
If you have any budding performers in the family, the renowned Performing Arts School at bergenPAC is holding auditions for its summer musical and for participants to perform flash mobs at the mall to celebrate Halloween and promote their summer and winter musicals. It may not be Broadway ... but it’s a start.
