Wellness  /

Who doesn’t love a good wellness retreat – the peacefulness, the rejuvenating, the massages. But the travel part? It’s hard to return to real life feeling refreshed after you ended up with the middle seat on the flight back and missed your connection. That’s why the Shou Sugi Ban House is the so-close-we-can-drive-it wellness resort we’ve been waiting for.

Located in the Hamptons, the property – which just opened this spring – offers a mix of therapeutic, healing and multi-sensory experiences like spa treatments, classes and workshops, and plenty of amazing food. Those who choose overnight retreats (there’s currently a two-night minimum and overnights are offered Thursday through Sunday) will get a customized getaway that might include nutrition workshops, meditation, movement and yoga classes, ancient healing treatments, therapeutic massage, and some killer plant-based cuisine. If you can only swing a day trip, you can indulge in a pared-down version of the longer experience, but we promise it will still feel (and taste) really good. And if you really want to double down on your personal little restoration project, sign on for a weekend with specialized programming, like the culinary-focused Nourish & Rebalance retreat taking place in October.

As for the Shou Sugi Ban House’s impressive design, think neutral hues, clean lines, and lots of natural elements of wood and stone, creating a fusion of beach-meets-Scandinavian-meets-Asian-minimalist style. The property’s 13 individual cedar-wood guest studios boast artisan-made furniture, Hinoki wood tubs as well as modern soaking tubs, organic bedding, fireplaces, and private massage areas and gardens. But even when you’re out roaming the communal parts of the property, you’ll still likely find yourself overwhelmed by blissful tranquility thanks to quiet outdoor spaces, sculpture gardens, winding pathways, fire pits, a saltwater pool and even a cherry orchard that’ll make you feel worlds away from the hustle of the Hamptons.

Ready to get your zen on? Go ahead a reserve yourself a fabulous fall getaway. We’re warning you now that it’s not going to come cheap, but, c’mon, you and your self-care are worth it.
