Quick Winter Weekend Getaways for Adults in and Around NJ

When is the last time you got away? Reconnecting with your partner or with yourself is crucial for reclaiming your identity, rather than being solely wrapped up in your child's life (as much as we love them!) Taking just one or two nights away either solo, with a significant other, or with friends can help you regroup and unwind.

Fortunately, Bergen County is just a short drive from a variety of quick getaways that offer some much needed R&R. We rounded up some new, some known, and some lesser-known spots that will help you recharge and give you some much-deserved, valuable adult time, with a little fun on the side.

Hotel Lilien, Tannersville, NY This 18-room boutique hotel opened its doors in summer 2022, with the final six rooms officially open as of last week. Less than two hours away, find a mini-getaway that has all of the essentials you need to unwind: a cocktail bar and lounge serving specialty drinks like Blood Orange Negroni Spagliato, billiards and board games, complimentary snow shoes for winter exploration, a fire pit, wood paneled library, and so much more. It's nestled near plenty of wintertime activities (snow tubing anyone?) as well as a bustling downtown scene. Or, visit during the summer for boating, swimming, and live music.

Mirbeau Inn & Spa, Rhinebeck, NY Treat yourself to a little pampering at Mirbeau, where adult naptime is encouraged and zen is the name of the getaway game. Find peace and calm in the Himalayan Salt Sauna, enjoy a rejuvinating body treatment such as the back facial, and even partake in robe-appropriate dining during breakfast or lunch before your spa experience. With complimentary fitness classes, food and drinks served throughout the day, and in-room fireplaces, the most difficult thing you'll have to do during your stay is decide how you want your relaxation to look.

The Lodge at Woodloch, Hawley, PA The highly-visited spot in the Poconos that many Bergen Mamas visit offers activities for the adventurous and spa specials for those looking for downtime. For the active guests, the offer scheduled events such as birding, disc golf, geocaching, and guided hiking. To relax, there are a number of customizable spa treatments to enjoy, and even a spa concierge to help you schedule and find the best treatments for you. For your meals, feast on fresh farm-to-table ingredients at TREE Restaurant & Bar, which brings the outdoors in, and partake in cooking and baking demos with guest chefs.

Emerson Resort & Spa, Mount Tremper, NY Find a scheduled calendar of events from Friday to Monday that includes activities such as pebble painting, watercolor, guided nature walks, and meditation. The Shops at Emerson also provide an on-site shopping experience with local food and art, decor, and even the world's largest kaleidescope and sensory kaleidoshow. On the spa menu, find traditional treatments along with spiritual healing and monthly specials.  Enjoy relaxing vibes and imbibe at the Woodnotes Grille, which features cocktails named after famous writers, and grilled bites.

Buttermilk Falls Inn + Spa, Milton, NY Animal lovers can visit with furry friends at this retreat that features trails and tails (think: an animal sanctuary, aviary house, an apiary with honey bees, and livestock barn). They also offer a pet program and pet-friendly rooms if you want to bring along your "other" best friend. Enjoy pampering at the spa, farm-to-table eats at Henry's Restaurant, or venture off the premises to spots such as Benmarl Winery and the Walkway Over the Hudson.
