It’s all gummy bear wishes and dark chocolate dreams over at the new American Dream mall since candy superstore IT’SUGAR recently opened for business. Though this is the retailer’s fifth New Jersey outpost, (the first was in Atlantic City), it’s definitely the biggest and baddest of them all, clocking in at 22,000 square feet spread out over three stories.
You’ll be amazed from the start, entering with a stroll beneath a 60-foot Statue of Liberty made of 1.5 million jelly beans before hitting the world’s largest selection of bulk candy on the first floor.
Our own head mama, Bergen Mama founder hit up the Technicolor shop over the weekend with her 12-year-old in tow and was wowed by not just how huge the place is but also all the interesting and innovative sweet stuff she found there, including full sections dedicated to individual candy brands from Reese’s to Sour Patch Kids to Pop Rocks (all touting flavors you’ll rarely find anywhere else) along with an international section of imported confections from Turkey, Britain, Japan, and other far-flung places. Plus, there’s an immersive lollipop garden filled with 10,000 of the suckers and even a 21-and-over section featuring stuff like booze-infused gummy bears, Jack Daniel’s truffles, and Captain Morgan candy bars as well as some SNL-themed sweets including the infamous Pete’s Schweddy Balls. (Alec Baldwin not included, unfortunately.)
Beyond the edible stuff, there are plenty of cute tees and gifts and a Pusheen section chock full of stuffed toys and other merchandise. While the third floor isn’t open yet, it’s set to soon become a cafe called Oreo TWISTiD where you can pick up decadent desserts and drinks made with the fabled cookie. That’ll open on March 6th, which happens to be National Oreo Day, otherwise known as our new favorite holiday.
