Like kids on the last day of school, Jerseyites’ excitement surrounding Memorial Day Weekend is palpable. The weather has warmed, our favorite Shore spots are back open, fun family vacations are on the horizon, and we’ve got a few Mem Day kickoff party invites hanging on the fridge. Since there’s lots to be done between now and then (and frankly we’re actually not sure where to begin), we reached out to two of our favorite Bergen Mamas for their tips, tricks and advice on proper pregame prep for the big holiday weekend. From wardrobe picks, to beauty routine shortcuts, to what to bring to the barbecue, here’s everything they had to share. Happy Memorial Day!
Mama: Jen Zuckerman, Personal Stylist
Jen's always had a flair for fashion- her talent of mixing and matching trendy and classic pieces is now something she not only does for herself but for others now with her personal stylist business. Local mamas follow her account @styleinthefly on Instagram for fashion inspo on the daily. Day to day she's a hands on mom with two kids and lives in Tenafly.
Jen loves to shop in local boutiques like Reform in Cresskill and mix those outfits with pieces from RobynLeslie fine jewelry. In the photo below, Jen's celebrates Memorial Day Weekend style by wearing a Stateside Top, McGuire Jean Jacket, Frame White Denim and a Bag all from REFORM.
Jen's first stop for her MDW beauty is at Supreen Lash & Wax Studio in Closter Plaza for a full set of lashes. And to give her that Summer glow, she visits Estheticamd in Englewood for their microdermabrasion and custom facials.
And how does Jen actually spend Memorial Day Weekend? Chilling and grilling with her fam up in the Berkshires.
Mama: Katie Diamond, Owner of Katie Diamond Store, Ridgewood NJ
Katie's laid back style is part intentional and part necessity. She's a busy Ridgewood mom and shopowner (we love her adorable boutique in Ridgewood) and mom of two. But Memorial Day Weekend is her time to kick back and enjoy her family- in style of course!
Outfit essentials are easy for Katie- she loves to shop her own curated favorites but also adds basics from basics like Zara. For MDW you can find her with this customer favorite custom tote in hand (available in store at Katie Diamond Store in Ridgewood) and one of these gold or silver cuffs on her arm (also available in store).
Katie's beauty routine always includes a trip to the new Alt House of Blonde where she relies on stylist Meg who gives her tresses the perfect hue of blonde on a monthly basis plus blowdrys weekly.
And the secret to her glowing skin? It's Dr. Song at Omni Aesthetics in Oakland. She says the Fractal Laser Treatment has been a gamechanger ("I've seen such a difference in just a few months") and also loves the Stem Cell Facial which adds collagen and helps with volume for weekends she wants to look her best.
