De Novo Restaurant Opens in Edgewater NJ and it’s Divine

Restaurants  /

So, if location is everything (and anyone who’s ever had an apartment with a window that faced a brick wall knows that it is) then De Novo, the newly opened Edgewater restaurant styled after the family-oriented casual pubs of Europe, has everything and more.

Powerhouse restauranteur Demitri Malki, owner of the original De Novo, an Upper Montclair favorite, has taken over and fully renovated the eye-popping (literally!) space of dearly departed Le Jardin, which closed its doors after an iconic 20-year run. This new Edgewater location, in the shadow of the GWB and with views that are to die for, will not only share the same chef— Adolfo Marisi—but also virtually the same menu, which showcases Italian, Greek, and Mediterranean flavors including house-made breads, small plates, charcuterie, flatbreads, salads, burgers, house-made pastas, entrées, and late-night bar bites.

While we strongly recommend the Branzino (whipped pomme mousseline, five onion balsamic salsa, roasted petit potatoes, bacon wrapped asparagus), the Black & White Sesame Crusted Tuna (spicy chipotle aioli, & asparagus, roasted potatoes, soy reduction), and the surprisingly simple Spaghetti Cacio (Spaghetti Cacio E Pepe, pecorino romano, fresh cracked black pepper, virgin oil), a selection of rotating, seasonal specials will also be on offer.

This new spot, with its white shiplap walls, beautiful L-shaped bar and matching bar tables, wood-beamed ceiling, and tons of natural light and greenery, has a casual, laid back vibe. Options for dining include inside seating in the dining room, but if you’d rather grab a quick bite, there’s a large outdoor bar with outdoor tables and a lounge.

Future plans for an outdoor entertaining space are also in the works. All the better to take in what is sure to make this De Novo location a must-dine spot: the spectacular views of the George Washington Bridge and the twinkling lights of the skyscrapers of New York City.

It may not officially be on the menu, but romance is likely to be this place’s most popular specialty.
