Back in the ‘80s Hartly was the must-stop shop for every Bat-Mitzvah, Homecoming Dance and Sweet Sixteen-goer in Bergen and beyond. We especially loved parading around in the rouched taffeta number we wore for our Senior Prom - with matching dyed heels circa 1989 (thanks, mom).
So we were kind of stunned when we revisited the Westwood staple and discovered that the store has experienced a major rebirth. Under the high style stewardship of third generation owner Sloane Hartly, the boutique has undergone a complete overhaul and now has a clean, open, NYC vibe and the togs to match – while still sticking to the founders’ original mission: high style, value and customer service.
The selection includes casual wear (sweaters by Vince, bottoms from Elizabeth and James and Current Elliot), sweet stuff for going out (satin halters from Ramy Brook, Missoni frocks, creations from Yigal and Valentino) and edgy exclusives (Les Copains and Zenobia), plus, everything else you would need to complete an ensemble for just about any occasion (including accessories from up-and-comers Dannijo and Auden). And if you love Hartly for their selection of formal wear (they were the first to bring Christian Siriano’s designs to the Bergen fashion scene) don’t fret. They still have one of the best collections of gowns and cocktail dresses in our county, so you’ll be sure to find the dress of your dreams you’re just dying to have.
Pinky promise.
