Chef Michael Merida’s Craft Taco Co. Opens in Westwood, NJ

Restaurants  /

You may know Bergen County's Michael Merida from the time he "Beat Bobby Flay" during the Food Network cook-off, or from his delicious healthy Hillsdale spot Rockin' Roots. And now, the pro chef is setting his sights on conquering the taco space, with his own twist.

Merida's newest innovative venture is Craft Taco Company, which is hosting its grand opening at its 5 Corners Westwood location on April 13. But don't let the name deceive you — this new restaurant is anything but your basic Mexican-inspired taco and instead combines some of the chef's influences from around the world (think: Korea, India, and the South) and puts it into gourmet taco form.

The casual dining spot has plenty of seating at at the bar which faces the open kitchen, along with its wood tables placed throughout the open, modern-looking restaurant. And with the ability to customize your taco order, you can taste a variety of options. The recommended portion size is anywhere from three to five tacos, depending on your appetite (and ability to resist ordering one of everything). Taco options include mahi mahi with veggie slaw, garlic shrimp with avocado sauce, and crispy paneer with dill yogurt. Plus, you should always save room for dessert at Craft Taco Co. It's bringing back the choco taco with its own spin on the infamous ice cream treat.

While the restaurant has been hosting a soft opening all week, it's finally ready to fully open its doors and delicious menu, so be sure to set time aside in your busy calendar to head over to the grand opening on April 13.
