If breakfast is the most important meal of the day, why are so many of us leaving it up to rubbery bagels, processed cereals, and sugary juices to do the job (that is if we’re not skipping it altogether)? If your breakfast table could use some shaking up, consider sitting down at one set by Willow & Whisk.
Newly opened in Wyckoff, this charming neighborhood cafe is rethinking breakfast and lunch (no dinner here) with two key ingredients in mind: family and great food. We popped in recently for a morning pick-me-up and found plenty of ways to get our morning off to a great start.
Whether you’re into a breakfast staples like eggs Benedict or a sausage, egg, and cheese sandwich, or lunchtime classics like a turkey club or a Cobb salad, W&W’s menu has it covered but have elevated them to new heights, using inventive ingredients and incorporating some surprising twists (and surprisingly reasonable prices, at that!). That sausage, egg, and cheese arrives burger-style on a brioche bun decorated with a smattering of brown-sugar ketchup. And that turkey club? It’s served between two slices of fresh rosemary focaccia instead of boring old rye. Not that hungry? Try one of W&W’s sharable plates, each featuring mini bites of frittata, brioche French toast, or buttermilk hotcakes.
Coffee, of course, is always a morning-must, and Willow & Whisk slings espresso shots, cappuccinos, lattes, macchiatos, cold and nitro brews, and the like right up there with the best of them. Fresh-squeezed juices and virgin, cocktail-inspired concoctions (like the Willijito, a lemon-basil mock-jito, and the Zing Zang Bloody Mary, made with fresh horseradish and crackled black pepper) are also in the mix.
For now, seating is limited to outdoor tables only, but there’s a newly renovated indoor dining area just waiting to be enjoyed. In the meantime, dining al fresco suits us just fine. After all, what better way to to enjoy your sunny-side ups than with some actual sunshine?
