Bergen County Newest Bowl Spot is Sweet(berry). Yum!

Restaurants  /

The bowl craze has officially hit Bergen County. Another “super fruit bowl shop”, Sweetberry Bowls, has opened, this time in Glen Rock. A breath of tropical air for Glen Rock’s main street, Sweetberry is conveniently located next to the uber-popular SWEAT cycle studio. Perfect for a little post-spin treat!

On a recent visit to this hip bowl joint, we knew we would find fresh fruit bowls, smoothies, and oatmeal bowls but we were pleasantly surprised to find that they also have a fully stocked build-your-own salad bar! We enjoyed a lovely, fresh, clean smash-up salad, reminiscent of our NYC days, then turned our attention to three signature bowls.

The Acai based Sweetberry bowl, the Green Crush, a blend of  kale, banana, pineapple and coconut milk, and the Tiger Kiss, a Coconut base bowl featuring coconut meat, banana, and coconut milk.

It’s hard to say which one was the favorite, but after much debate the Sweetberry, topped with banana, strawberries, coconut flakes and Nutella edged out the others. As expected, all bowls are dairy-free, gluten-free, non-GMO and vegan.

As with the other bowl shops, if you go after school, expect to find hoards of kids and teens hanging around while you feed your new addiction but if you're in a hurry and need to skip the line, call 30-40 minutes before you visit. Or order and pay on-line then pick up in the store.

Either way it’s worth the trip. The bowls are delicious and the store, with its tropical fruit bowls paired with the palm frond wall decor and vine covered ceiling ALMOST transported us to a much needed summer day.
