Family vacations are great—especially when they don’t involve stomach-churning roller coasters, cartoon characters, or expensive plane tickets to hang out at a certain mouse’s house. This year I made it my mission to find a family friendly destination that was a little more adult (and way closer to home). So the hubby and I packed up our clan, jumped in the car, and headed out for a weekend getaway at Baron’s Cove, in Sag Harbor.
I’d read about this haute Hamptons before it even opened, and had always wanted to experience it for myself. This newly remodeled, 67-room resort didn’t disappoint. Aside from having a great pool, attentive staff, and nice, clean rooms, it’s all about the little extra details (hello embroidered nautical pillow cases!) that make this resort so special. I’ve never felt more VIP.
Baron’s Cove is located at at the tip of Sag Harbor, just a short walk from Main Street and facing Shelter Island Sound. That means shopping and the beach, two of my family’s favorite things to do. Baron’s even offers complimentary chairs, beach umbrellas, towels, and free shuttle bus service to and from the water. Spending a relaxing day at the beach has never been, well, more of a day at the beach!
The third thing my family loves to do? Eat! The food here is fantastic and beyond fresh. I ordered a salad for lunch, and you could tell the lettuce came right from their on-site garden, which is bursting with peppers, tomatoes, basil, and mint. If you can, sit out on the balcony, which boasts beautiful views overlooking the pool and marina. At dusk, Baron’s Cove’s signature eatery turns into a Hamptons hotspot- an elegant dining spot that also has a soft spot for the younger set.
Sorry, Mickey, but I think we’ve found our new magic kingdom.
