Well, here we are, it’s almost summer again and you’re in the market for a unique camp that your kid hasn’t done already. File this one under, “why didn’t anyone think of it sooner” and then sign your child up for the Youth Saber and Chess Camp to be held at the Manhattan Fencing Center in Englewood, New Jersey. Your kid will learn a new skill or two, or they’ll hone skills they’ve already acquired.
The Youth Saber and Chess Camp is open to kids ages 7-14 and offers a remarkable opportunity for kids to learn Olympic-style saber fencing and sharpen their minds with daily chess instruction—all in one action-packed day! Whether they’re brand new to fencing and/or chess, or they have some experience, this camp is designed to spark their passion and build confidence through hands-on learning.
Each day will start with a morning session devoted to learning and developing fencing skills. Campers will start with warm-ups, games, and conditioning, then will move on to footwork, target drills, and fencing strategy as well as speed, agility, and coordination challenges. After relaxing and recharging at lunch, campers will gear up for interactive fencing drills and practice bouts. Each day will wind down with an hour or chess during which campers will learn tactics, solve puzzles, and play friendly matches to build focus and strategic thinking.
All sessions will be led by the Manhattan Fencing Center’s world-class coaching staff which includes National, International, and Olympic-level coaches. Sessions are designed with a low student-to-instructor ratio, ensuring that every child gets personalized attention and encouragement.
Youth Saber and Chess Camp will be held the weeks of July 7–11, July 21–25, July 28–August 1, and August 18–22 from 9 AM – 3 PM. Early drop-off and late pick-up are available for a fee.
