Spring is about to get sprung, which means school vacation days and better weather (?). So, what to do? Why not treat the family (and you) to a quick trip full of fun in the sun. Better yet, drop the kids off at the in-laws and opt for a romantic getaway with your sweetie. Either way, don’t wait until summer to do it! Here, our five top vacay spots (and romantic retreats) for a slam-dunk spring break.
Charleston, South Carolina
Whether you come for Spoleto, the award-winning food, family-friendly beaches, historical sights, or its all-American charm, Charleston is an especially great getaway in the spring. The city is in full-bloom—literally!—with vast collections of eye-popping azaleas and camellias at Magnolia Plantation and Gardens, and the not-too-hot, not-too-cold weather is perfect for long daytime strolls through Charleston’s bustling French Quarter and Battery districts. Chic boutique hotels abound here as well, including the elegant 5-star Wentworth Mansion and The Vendue, a quirky combination of old warehouses that date back to the 18th and 19th centuries that’s ranked the #1 hotel in the city by Travel + Leisure.
Rosewood Bermuda
All hail the Queen (and queen moms!) at this small-but-mighty British island territory known for its inviting mix of global culture, signature pink-sand beaches, and a slew of newly opened upscale hotels, none more must-worthy than the Rosewood, located in the island’s second-most eastern parish. Having just undergone a stunning $25 million renovation, this ultra-luxury, 5-star resort boasts nearly 100 residential-style rooms, an epic golf course, fine dining, world-class health and wellness options, and tons more, all spread over 240 stunning seaside acres. Do you need a better excuse to make sure your passport is up to date?
Watch Hill, Rhode Island
Move over Martha’s Vineyard, there’s a new kid on the New England travel scene! This quaint seaside village located on the most-southwestern point in all of Rhode Island not only has picturesque charm to burn, it’s also making a splash with forward-thinking travelers (and celebs like Taylor Swift, who recently bought a home here) looking for an authentic Cape experience without the crowds. The fancy schmancy Ocean House hotel is considered the grand dame of the entire state of Rhode Island (not to mention host of the areas best Sunday brunch!), but the historic Weekapaug Inn and the stately Watch Hill Inn—both awarded World’s Best status by Travel + Leisure magazine—are also worth exploring. And yes, there are plenty of lobster rolls!
Shore Club, Turks and Caicos
If we had to play Marry, Shag, Kill with the world’s top island getaways, we’d definitely put a ring on this British-owned archipelago of low-lying coral islands just southeast of the Bahamas. And we’re not alone, based on the number of celebs and jet setters opting to spend time on Grand Turk Island over the been-there-done-that scenes of St. Barts and Saint Tropez. We’re talking world-class luxury here, from the Insta-worthy crystal blue waters and ivory sand beaches to bucket-list-worthy ocean adventures, gourmet dining, chic shops, top-tier spa amenities, and OMG accommodations. At the top of the list for the latter has to be The Shore Club, the first resort on Turks and Caicos’ unspoiled—and super-secluded—Long Bay Beach. Go big with a family-sized suite or villa (with optional butler service and tons of complimentary amenities) or keep it real with a junior room with a view. Than ask yourself, “how is this place only a three-hour flight away?”
Nashville, Tennessee
You’ll experience anything but the honky-tonk blues at this classic American capital city synonymous with good times, mouth-watering food (hot chicken alert!), and, of course, country music. And with temps rising and days getting longer, April is the perfect time to pay a visit, with plenty of great deals on hotel and B&B stays (we love the 21c Museum Hotel, which is anchored by one of the coolest contemporary art museums around), outdoor festivals, Nashville Fashion Week, and the Awesome April celebration, an annual tribute to the city that promises a major musical event each weekend. While you’re there, make sure to explore one or more of Nashville’s upcoming ‘hoods, including Hillsboro Village, 12South, and East Nashville, where you’ll find a slew of chic and trendy boutiques, cafes, and hot spots that could give hipster Williamsburg a run for its money.
