If you have a child who will be entering high school in the next few years, you’ll want to start looking at their educational options, even though, at the moment, you might not be able to remember what day of the week it is or when you last changed your pajama pants. A good place to start your research is the U.S. News & World Report rankings of the best high schools in the country. Two Bergen County schools, Bergen County Technical High School in Teterboro and Bergen County Academies in Hackensack made the list this year so check them out online. You don’t even have to change your pajama pants to help your kid become an even bigger smarty pants!
Bergen County Technical High School, or Bergen Tech, is ranked 93 in the nation, and is a four-year, tuition free magnet school serving students in ninth through twelfth grade. Students must be residents of Bergen County to apply. Additionally, Bergen Tech does not accept transfers. So if your kid wants to go, they’ll need to apply in the 8th grade. Students at Bergen Tech can choose tracks that include: Fashion Design & Merchandising, Automotive Engineering & Design, Strategic Asset Management, Commercial Art & Graphic Design, Computer Science, Culinology, Digital & Media Arts, Law & Justice and Aerospace Engineering.
Bergen County Academies, is ranked 46th in the nation has seven academic and professional divisions and is also a tuition-free public magnet school. Same rules for residency apply here. Academies within the academy focus on: science and technology, business and finance, culinary arts and hospitality administration, medical science technology, computer science and technology, and visual and performing arts academies for both visual and performing arts. Transfers after 9th grade are also not accepted at this school.
