What do you do when you find out your firstborn child has been diagnosed with Angelman’s Syndrome, a rare neurological disorder that targets motor coordination, speech and cognitive ability? Well, first you do everything you can to make sure your kid has everything they need to be healthy and happy. Then, if you’re the Sullivan family of Ridgewood, NJ, you look around and decide that you want to help other families who have at-risk or differently abled children. After their son Will, now 13, was diagnosed, the Sullivans created the GoodWill Foundation, a 501c3 non-profit whose mission is simply to do “something Good, for Will”.
To that end, GoodWill Foundation, a Bergen County based organization, is dedicated to raising money to help support New Jersey organizations like CTC Academy, an educational and therapeutic environment for children and adults with special needs, Camp Acorn enrichment camps, and Camp Sunshine/Snowflake and Camp Fatima, seasonal recreational and social camps for children and young adults with special needs. With GoodWill, the Sullivans hope to help relieve some of the financial and emotional stress families have when they are caring for children with special needs.
On Saturday, March 14th, GoodWill Foundation will be hosting their annual Shamrock Shuffle 5K run to raise funds for their important work. The USATF Grand Prix event will kick off at the Wild Duck Pond in Ridgewood at 9:00 am. The race fee is $35/pp and group awards will be given by 5 years, starting at 14 and under through 85 and older. The first 375 participants to register will receive t-shirts. Click here to register your family to run (or walk). Registration deadline is Thursday, March 12th. Then gather your green tees, hats, beads and socks and get ready to do the Shamrock Shuffle. Who knows? You might even catch a leprechaun!
