With all apologies to Amazon Fresh, Peapod, and Fresh Direct, it’s officially time to get excited about going to the grocery store again! What’s making us want to hang up the phone on those time-saving delivery apps, you ask? Two words: Stew Leonard’s!
That’s right, the feel-good, family-owned and operated grocer will be opening its first-ever Jersey location at the Paramus Park shopping mall sometime this fall. Not familiar with the chain The New York Times dubbed “The Disneyland of Dairy Stores”? Well, let’s just say they put the “super” in supermarket.
First, let’s start with the selection. From the fresh produce section, overflowing with just-picked seasonally local fruits and veggies to the on-site butcher shop (their filet mignon is kinda legendary) to their award-winning, always-organic dairy offerings, Stew comes up a winner, all at great prices. Of course, they’ve also got prepared foods for days and all your pantry essentials in stock, not to mention one of the best-smelling bakery counters we’ve ever been to (all their breads and baked goods are made from scratch every day, without preservatives or dough conditioners. Well, except for the macarons—those are direct from France!). There’s even a florist and gardening shop.
Then there’s the fun. Shopping at Stew’s is like going to a country fair, with costumed characters and animated entertainment throughout the store that keep children entertained while parents shop. Expect plenty of family fun events and culinary classes for all ages, too, especially around the holidays, when Stew’s really pulls out all the stops. Plus, customers who spend $100 or more always leave with an extra sweet feeling—free ice cream!
Still tethered to the convenience of ordering online? Don’t worry, Stew’s also offers grocery delivery (in as little as one hour!) via Instacart. Yup, sounds like we’ve got a delicious new addition to the neighborhood on our hands.
