Your kids are such rock stars, you’d line the walls of your bedroom with Tiger Beat style posters of them in action if you could— you’re that much of a groupie. But how much do they really know about what it’s like to perform in front of 10,000 screaming fans?
Time to enroll your budding musicians in a true band experience. School of Rock Summer Camps in Tenafly is where the kids are rockin’ this summer.
Here’s how the concert lineup works: Campers (ages 7 – 9 for beginner camp or ages 9 – 18 for regular camp) are organized into bands based on ability, age and music style preference. From there, they get to name their band, create a logo and a concert poster, rehearse and write music, record songs (cover or original) and basically live the life of a rock musician.
With an instructor and student assistant leading them to stardom all week long, there are approximately six kids to each band, so every kid rocker gets a leading part, whether it’s guitar, drum, piano, bass or vocals. To top things off, the entire cast of the camp performs a concert for family and friends on the last day, and each rock star goes home with band swag including a custom T-shirt featuring their band’s logo and a studio recording of one of their most spellbinding performances. We can almost hear those screaming fans now.
