No doubt about it, your kid loooves trucks. They know the difference between a front end loader, an excavator and a bulldozer. They spend hours with their vehicles, “moving dirt” and “building cities”. Sometimes they even pretend to BE trucks. So, take them to the place where they’ll feel right at home. Diggerland in West Berlin, NJ is open for the season and waiting to welcome the truck obsessed, the truck curious, and those who just want a totally unique theme park experience.
Start your day at Diggerland Construction Adventure Park with some of the popular rides and attractions. New for 2018 are the Soaring Eagle Zip Line (a favorite of our tiny tester), and Rugged Riders, an opportunity to ride or drive in a Kubota RTV-900. Or, older riders can experience a simulation of a dump truck dropping its load (in this case, the riders!), a spin on an excavator, or a lift on a telehandler.
Little riders will have a full day of fun driving backhoes, ATVs, skid steers, diggers, dump trucks and tractors. Our tiny tester loved the Elevation Station, a platform that raises riders 60 feet straight up in the air, the Dumper Trucks obstacle course, and the ropes course.
Diggerland has a few dining options and two covered dining pavilions, one of which is climate controlled in case there’s still a little chill in the spring air when you go. They also host birthday parties and, for the biggest kids in the group, DiggerlandXL offers the opportunity for adults to try their hand at operating unrestricted, full-sized construction equipment with 1:1 instruction by the heavy machinery foremen.
The drive from Bergen County to Diggerland takes just under two hours, manageable for a weekend day trip or Spring Break excursion and truly worth it if your kid is into vehicles. As our tiny tester’s mom said, “There’s nothing like it around.”
