Help Your Neighbors at the Virtual Rubin Run at Kaplen JCC on the Palisades [dedicated]

Though it seems like the world has mostly stopped these days, there are still people who are in need of assistance and critical programs that must continue to serve their clients. At Kaplen JCC on the Palisades, many of these programs are focused on supporting the hundreds of individuals with special needs and their families who rely on the vital resources and social connections provided by the JCC every day. Even during this time of closure, programs and services are open virtually, providing online group classes, one-to-one outreach, and personalized support and guidance for parents and caregivers. 

Now more than ever, it is important that these essential programs receive the funding and support they need. As a result, the annual Rubin Run, a major fundraising event for Kaplen JCC programs supporting individuals with development disabilities or autism, has been reimagined and will be conducted virtually this year. 

How does it work? First, sign up for the #virtualrubinrun2020 Family, Fitness and Fun on the Kaplen JCC website and commit to a fundraising goal. There’s a race for everyone featuring 5K, 10K, Half Marathon challenges as well as a new Kids Fun Run, a 1K distance challenge for children ages 12 and under, and a Set My Own Distance Challenge where you can decide the distance you want to complete. 

Then, from Thursday, May 7 – Sunday, May 10 (Mother’s Day) run, walk or bike from anywhere, log your distance and achieve your personal goal. Every kilometer (KM) you cover will count towards your target, and by raising money along the way you are helping our JCC to meet its collective goal of $150,000. 

All Rubin Run participants will be invited to participate in a virtual, complimentary Running Training Program with JCC Coach Jonathan Kline, now through Wednesday, May 6. Plus, kids will love the Rubin Run Family Bingo. The whole family can prepare together for the Kids Fun Run (1K) and have fun at the same time. Post the bingo card at home and complete the child friendly activities in each block to become Rubin Run Bingo Champions! And on Mother’s Day, join the JCC’s complimentary live virtual warm-ups and cool downs for each run.
