Heart Marks the Spot

 /

Here we are, three weeks away, and you’ve already begun your slander campaign on all things Valentines Day related.  A holiday invented by greeting card companies? Perhaps.  “Amateur Night” you say? Duly noted.  But seriously, your merciless attack on sweet cupid seems just a tad bit unwarranted.  C’mon, if nothing else, Valentine’s is an excuse for a rare night alone with your man and the perfect reason to receive something sparkly.  Here are a few good options that may change your view.

Hopeless romantics dial up Café Panache, where Chef Kohler will be serving “whatever is fresh that day” for their $55 per person three course pre-fixe dinner.  Could he be serving the crowd favorites: “braised short rib” and “kale salad with cranberries and parmesan”?  We’re keeping our fingers crossed.  Grab a table for two set against the windows facing the street, gaze into your man’s eyes and hope that you can still focus on the yummy fare.

Warm up at the Ho-Ho-Kus Inn where you can cozy up to your suitor all Valentine’s Day weekend long.  The eatery will be offering their regular menu (we weren’t sure we could live without the house-made pretzels) along with the option of ordering a pre-fixe Valentine’s Special selection for $75 from Friday through Sunday.  On Monday, “ The Big Night“, at the Inn you can select a four course special pre-fixe menu for $85 per person, or tack on wine pairings for an additional $50, both options include a glass of bubbly and a sweetheart rose, awww.

Keep it under wraps.  At 11 table Xavier’s at Piermont, you can canoodle quietly in a corner table while you nibble on Iron Chef winner Peter Kelly’s four-star eats. The restaurant will be serving a three course pre-fixe menu during each seating (6:30 and 8pm) for $100 per person on February 14th.  And for those of you who just can’t get out on a Monday, they are offering the same celebratory evening on Sunday the 13th for $75.

Those who like to keep it spicy should book a table at Sabor in North Bergen, where they will be celebrating the “Dia De San Valentin” all weekend long.  Nothing puts us more in the mood than a pitcher of Sangria (red OR white, either will do) and sharing a plate of empanadas with our date.  Valentine’s Day Pre-Fixe 3 course menu is $65 per person from Friday to Monday, February 14th .

So see, we’re not going to sit here and tell you we told you so.  You don’t even have to admit your anti-Valentine’s Day rhetoric was a little unjust. And no one needs to know when you forward these suggestions to your husband (date, boy toy) and let the arrow strike where it may.
