A Netflix Party is the Perfect Cure for Bingewatching Boredom

 /

In these days of social distancing, there are a few things we’ve come to rely on to help us keep our sanity: Online delivery. Daily calls to our BFF. Dr. Fauci’s science-based updates. Chocolate anything. And, of course, our beloved Netflix, which has not only acted as a great distraction to the kids while we’re working from home, but also something to get us through the more-often-than-not long, sleepless nights.

Now, its giving us a whole new way to celebrate with Netflix Party, which allows users to virtually enjoy all the insanity of “Tiger King,” the mystery of “Ozark” and all the rest of your favorite movies and shows on the app in real time with family and friends via group chat.

Hosting a Party is easy:

  1. Download and install the FREE Google Chrome extension at www.netflixparty.com.

  2. Make sure your friends do the same so an “NP” button is visible, probably near the upper-right-hand corner of your screen.

  3. Open your Netflix account on your computer.

  4. Start the program you want to watch together.

  5. Click on the “NP” button.

  6. A chat window appears on the right side.

  7. Copy the URL using the provided button.

  8. Send the URL to your friends (Email, text, whatever).

  9. As they join, you will see them in the chat window at the bottom.

  10. Click the icon in the top right (probably popcorn or a hamburger, etc.) to change your nickname and avatar.

  11. Voila, you’re having a Netflix Party!

Our favorite part (besides seeing what our snarkiest friend has to say about Joe Exotic’s man mullet)? This is a webcam-free, come-as-you-are party, which means you’re free to RSVP even if you’ve got a serious case of bed head and haven’t been out of your “comfy” clothes in days. Just make sure there’s extra butter on the popcorn.
