If you're from the Northeast, there is perhaps no weekend more exciting than Memorial Day weekend, the unofficial kickoff of summer, when the shore starts surging with visitors again; town pools and other fun seasonal stuff reopens for the fleeting warm-weather months; and we all breathe a sigh of relief that the ice and snow are behind us (for now, anyway). This year, we've got something new to look forward to come Mem Day: Our favorite indoor/outdoor water park, South Jersey's Sahara Sam's Oasis, will be opening up a splashy 10,000-square-foot addition that's been in the works since last November, dubbed The Mirage.
The addition will include a couple of cool components. First, there's a family leisure pool with integrated seating so that guests can chill out and lounge while cooling off in the water. The second part that the kids are going to go gaga over are two brightly colored 55-foot-tall "mat-racer" slides. The first of their kind in New Jersey, the new slides enable park-goers to race each other (head-first!) down 300-foot-long courses. The new additions will be connected to the rest of the 70,000-square-foot complex that also includes a seasonal "beach club," slated to get going for the season again on May 27.
And Sahara Sam’s is currently running a friendly little competition to name the two new slides. You can submit name ideas on their Facebook page and if they end up choosing your brilliant idea you'll score four free tickets to visit The Mirage during Memorial Day weekend … not to mention secure a spot in water-park history.
