Music fosters critical thinking skills, spatial reasoning and an ability to focus – which means now’s the perfect time to adjust the tempo and enroll your kids in the best music education our region has to offer.
Winner of the prestigious State Arts Award, the highly respected Thurnauer School of Music at the Kaplen JCC on the Palisades in Tenafly offers a dynamic music curriculum for all ages. Serving nearly 450 students from infancy through adulthood, this comprehensive program includes instrumental lessons, ensembles, master classes, a chamber music series, faculty recitals, and frequent student performances. Students have had the opportunity to interact and perform with world-renowned artists such as Itzhak Perlman, Pinchas Zukerman, and Wynton Marsalis; perform with Whoopi Goldberg and Bob McGrath on Sesame Street, and have appeared at Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, Merkin Concert Hall, and bergenPAC.
Thurnauer is currently accepting registrations for the 2015-16 school year, and at an upcoming open house on Sunday, September 20, from 1-4pm, everyone in the community can take part in Thurnauer’s “instrumental petting zoo,” where families can play and explore many instruments that will be on display.
Interested in starting private music lessons? Thurnauer now offers an introductory private music lesson only option for children ages 3 and up! If you want your child to have the ability to explore a few instruments before focusing on one, the school offers a new class, “Instrumental Exploration” that introduces violin, guitar, flute and piano over the course of the year to children ages 4 – 6. Children can also sign up to perform in recitals and concerts during the course of the year to showcase what they’ve learned.
